My favourite ugly buildings in Prague are the National Monument in Vitkov, Hotel InterContinental, the shopping mall in Chodov and the “new building” of the National Museum (former Radio Free Europe).

    • Pather says:

Dude, National Monument is not ugly for sure. But hey, just next to it is one of the ugliest towers in the world 🙂 I still kinda like it though. It reminds of this soviet children book I’ve used to read back in the 80s 🙂

There are some fairly crummy bits at Troja. The tower blocks near Pivovar Sedivak for example.

    • I took a lot of photos of the Odra shopping centre but I’m not good enough a photographer to really do it justice 🙂 Number 10 was taken only a couple of bus stops from there, though.

    Love it all

Don’t forget the monstrous high-rise in Vokovice practically in the middle of Divoká Šarka, ruining the otherwise gorgeous view.

    • Mike Morgan says:

‘practically in the middle of Divoka Sarka’ is something of an exaggeration !!

      • Janice says:

True, I admit anger leads me to exaggerate. Thankfully, when you are down inside the valley you can’t see it. But the overview landscape from above is ruined, nonetheless! I am sure a lot of $$$$ (czk, czk, czk) changed hands under the table to get a permit to build that eyesore.

With regards to Palmovka, yes, it is ugly, but you could have chosen almost any other angle and showed it uglier still. (like the construction site they just gave up on in the middle, for instance)
The bank building is just about the least ugly thing there.

    • Using photos of construction sites seemed like a cheap shot – even by this article’s standards 😉 You’ve got to assume that if there’s construction, they’re at least trying to make it better 🙂

  6. Charles says:

Graffiti is the ugliest part of Prague. It’s not artistic graffiti either, but the idiotic tagging kind.

  7. Gerald Turner says:

Vltavská metro station and tram stops are surely among the worst eyesores in the capital.

  8. Darrell says:

The freeway in front of the beautiful main train station seems to be one of the worse mishaps of the industrial age.

my particular dystopian favourite is Smichov Nadrazi. You do wonder who would design such a thing… an unrelenting concrete maze
