Tales from Suburban Bohemia: Car Crashes

I’m a big fan of peculiar coincidences. Here’s one from a couple of weeks ago.

We live on a quiet residential street, just off a major highway called Evropska.

It was around 9am. I was on my way to catch the 119 bus to work on Evropska and noticed that three cars had been involved in a collision at the junction.

The police were on the scene and various angry drivers and passengers were milling around. The accident had obviously happened a few minutes before I left the house.

We’ve lived in the same flat for nearly five years now and use the bus stop on Evropska nearly every day but I don’t remember anybody crashing there before (which is odd in itself because it’s a busy junction and most people in Prague seem to drive like lunatics).

I didn’t think any more about it until about 7pm that evening. I was on my way back from work, on the 119 again.

I got off the bus and noticed that two different cars had crashed, in exactly the same place.

Once again, the police were on the scene, suggesting that the accident had happened only minutes earlier.

It was cold but not icy, and the road was a little damp but it wasn’t raining.

Odd.
